What's Up Wednesday: Here's me, what's up with you?

Hey!

Ok... I've decided I need to run a weekly feature.. and I'll call it What's Up Wednesdays..   Why?  Well, recently it seems to me that I've gotten so wrapped up in gear reviews that I've kind of lost sight of why I originally started this blog.  Originally I started it as a personal journal to capture what I was going through as I worked to change my lifestyle with respect to eating and exercise.

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE reviewing gear and products and sharing my thoughts here.  And I enjoy it even more when I get an opportunity to give gear away as well.  So, that won't be changing (I am backlogged on reviews of great gear!), but I will ensure I do this update once a week.  Really, it's for me to reflect on where I am, and where I need to be, but if my sharing helps you get motivated, or to think more about lifestyle changes, then its a win-win!

Eating:

Currently, in addition to avoiding processed foods and eating organic, I have also eliminated all grains over the last two weeks, and will continue for a few more. This is in an effort to see if it can help with the chronic inflammation I've been experiencing in my Achilles.  So, I've been eating much more of a Paleo type of diet.  However, I have noticed that I have increased more dairy intake, which I was trying to limit before... need to be better about that.   Also, I managed to gain 7 lbs over 2 weeks of decadent vacation and limited running... ugh.

The good news is, the inflammation is getting better... enough to where I can run on a fairly regular basis, so that is great.  Any of you have any experience in limiting inflammation via diet? Would love to hear your story.

Running:

As I noted, I'm finally getting back to a regular running schedule, and that feels great.  I think that should help with the extra baggage I picked up over vacation.  I have also put a few races on my calendar, and that always helps with the motivation!  I'll be running the 24th annual Mayor's Cup here in our little town of Woodland Park.  I decided to run the 5K..  it is just a fun race around town.  Then on Labor Day, I've signed up for the American Discovery Trail 1/2 Marathon.  I've never run this one, but have some friends that have.  Should be fun, and I'm shooting for a PR in this 2nd half marathon for me.   Any big races out there for you?

I haven't got nearly as many barefoot miles as I had leading up to the Bolder Boulder 10K in May, but I still try to squeeze a few in here and there.  At this point, I don't know that I'll ever make that transition to a mostly barefoot runner, but it sure feels good when I can log a mile or two... otherwise, its huarache's or minimalist trail shoes for me!

Oh... and awesome news.. I found out earlier this month that I was selected as an Ambassador for INKnBURN!  This is the second time I applied, and I was so surprised I got selected.  I am really looking forward to spreading the word about their awesome gear with amazing designs!

Life:

Life is good :-)  A vacation road trip to So Cal to see family was well timed and very enjoyable for all of us.  Summer is still at a bit of a hectic pace with general craziness all around, but I can't complain.  I really have been enjoying running and blogging and all of the amazing people I have met worldwide via the world of social media.  Hope life is good for you as well!

Anyway.. that's what's up with me!  What's up with you?

Hope your summer is going well!

Happy Trails!

  1. Woohoo! Jeff! Congrats on: The InknBurn Ambassadorship, the decreased inflammation and back to running!
I haven't used diet for decreasing inflammation, but have heard from multiple people/ sources that cherries are good for that.
    Keep up the great work!!
